About Sump Pump Repair Guys in Warren
We repair sump pumps and nothing else. No waterproofing upsell, no membership plan. You get a diagnosis, a written price, and a full-cycle test before we leave.
Warren matters to us for a specific reason. The city’s storm and sanitary systems are separate, so the rain overloading its sewers is arriving through private foundation drains. That is our end of the problem, not the city’s.
The six parts that actually fail
Almost every call we take is one of these. Knowing which is which tells you whether you are buying a part or a pump.
- 01
Float switch
The most common failure of all. If the pump runs when you lift the float by hand, this is your fault and it is cheap.
- 02
Check valve
When it fails the discharge column falls straight back into the pit, so the pump restarts seconds after shutting off.
- 03
Impeller
Grinding or rattling means debris jammed in it, or grit that has worn the clearances open.
- 04
Motor
Humming with no flow, tripping thermal overloads, failing bearings. The one failure that usually does mean replacement.
- 05
Pit and basin
Cracked or undersized. A basin too small short-cycles every pump fitted into it, however good.
- 06
Discharge line
Blocked, crushed, frozen, or stopping so close to the wall that the water simply returns.
Why Warren floods when the sewers are already separate
Warren is not an old combined sewer city. Storm and sanitary run in different pipes. So the rain overwhelming the system has to be getting in somewhere else, and the city has been clear about where.
-
The design
Built for two inches
Warren’s underground infrastructure was built around a standard of two inches of rainfall over several hours. That served the city for decades.
-
The reality
Three storms past that in one year
The city has said that in a single recent year three severe rainfalls exceeded the system’s capacity, and flooded basements followed.
-
The response
22 million gallons of storage
The Stephens Road Detention Basin opened in 2025 at a cost of 37.5 million dollars. An underground chamber nearly three football fields long, holding wet weather flow until the plant can take it.
-
The programme
95 million over 14 years
The basin was the final phase of an overflow elimination programme that also built miles of relief sewers, upgraded the Nine Mile Road pump station and laid 3,300 feet of force main.

Warren sump pump questions, answered
My foundation drains run into the sanitary sewer. Is that a problem?
Yes, and in Warren it is the main one. The city has identified older homes with foundation drains that collect rainwater and send it into the wastewater system. Rerouting that water to a sump pit and a proper outside discharge protects your basement and the street’s sewer at once.
Why does the ground itself cause backups here?
During heavy rain and spring snowmelt the ground saturates and water finds its way into the wastewater pipes. The system was built for two inches over several hours, so once that is passed, capacity runs out regardless of what your pump is doing.
My pump runs but the pit stays full. Why?
It is turning without moving water. Usually a jammed impeller, or a discharge line blocked, crushed or frozen. Occasionally a check valve stuck shut. A larger pump fixes none of those.
Do I need a bigger pump if mine cannot keep up?
Usually not. A failed check valve or a basin too small for the inflow both look like an undersized pump. Oversizing into a small pit causes short-cycling and destroys the switch.
How do I test it myself?
Pour several gallons in slowly. The float should rise, the pump start, the water clear, and the pump stop on its own. Water flowing back after shutoff means the check valve is failing.
How fast can someone come out?
Same day across most of Macomb County, and after hours when water is already coming in. Most parts-level repairs finish in the same visit.
Keep the rain out of the sewer. Starting with your own drains.
Emergency repair, diagnostics, pit and valve testing, or a dry-weather inspection. Serving Warren and all of Macomb County.
