About Sump Pump Repair Guys in Springfield

We repair sump pumps and nothing else. No waterproofing upsell, no membership plan. You get a diagnosis, a written price, and a full-cycle test before we leave.

Springfield is one of the few places where a document already tells you where your discharge is allowed to go. Most homeowners have never looked at it.

Four places the water could go

City ordinance is specific about this. One option is banned outright, two need permission, and one is where most Springfield discharges already end up.

The sanitary sewer Banned outright. It is a cross connection under city ordinance. Onto a public right of way Only with the city engineer’s approval. A storm or combined sewer Only where the city engineer finds spare capacity. A street opening permit may apply. The rear yard drainage easement, the most common location of all
Your subdivision’s Final Plat shows where those easements run. It is the answer most people never look up.
  • Banned

    Never the sanitary lateral

Ordinance bars downspouts, surface drains, footing drains and sump pumps from any sanitary sewer. The city calls it a cross connection.

  • Why

    It is unmetered water

Sump water put into the sanitary system is transported and treated at everyone’s cost, drives up flow rates, and contributes to overflows and basement backups.

  • Look it up

The Final Plat has the answer

Rear yard drainage easements are shown on your subdivision’s Final Plat, and many newer subdivisions have underground pipes already laid in them for sump pumps.

  • Ask first

    Storm sewer needs sign off

Requests are reviewed individually, approval is required, and a street opening permit may be needed if the storm sewer sits in the right of way.

Where a rear yard easement actually runs

It is the strip along the back of the lots, shared between neighbours, and in newer subdivisions it often already has a pipe in it waiting for exactly this.

Shared ground, shared route. Blocking or regrading it affects every lot on the run.
  • The reimbursement is generous here

Springfield reimburses 75 percent, up to 5,000 dollars, toward plumbing modifications that reduce the risk of basement backups.

  • What that work involves

Typically a sewage ejection pit in the basement, with basement drains disconnected from the gravity service sewer and pumped up to around three feet below outside ground level.

  • Check which body serves you

The city and the regional sanitary district run separate programmes, and several surrounding villages are excluded from the district’s scheme. Ask before you assume you qualify.

  • Breaks in the right of way

There is a separate reimbursement route for structural breaks in the service sewer within the city right of way. Worth asking about before paying for that stretch yourself.

Springfield sump pump questions, answered

Where am I allowed to send my sump discharge?

Never into the sanitary sewer. The most common permitted location is the rear yard drainage easement, and your subdivision’s Final Plat shows where it runs. A storm sewer connection or a right of way discharge both need the city engineer’s approval.

My sump is connected to the sanitary line. How bad is that?

It is a cross connection and it is prohibited by ordinance. It also sends unmetered water to be transported and treated, which drives up flow rates and contributes to overflows and backups on your own street.

Is there already a pipe in my back yard for this?

Possibly. Many newer subdivisions have underground pipes installed in the rear yard drainage easement specifically for sump pumps. The plat will tell you whether the easement exists before anyone starts digging.

What does the reimbursement actually pay for?

Plumbing modifications that reduce basement backup risk, at 75 percent up to 5,000 dollars. In practice that usually means a sewage ejection pit in the basement, with the basement drains taken off the gravity service sewer.

Do I need a bigger pump if mine cannot keep up?

Usually not. A failed check valve or a basin too small for the inflow both look like an undersized pump. Oversizing into a small pit causes short-cycling and destroys the switch.

How fast can someone come out?

Same day across most of Sangamon County, and after hours when water is already coming in. Most parts-level repairs finish in the same visit.

Check the plat. Then run the pipe once.

Emergency repair, diagnostics, pit and valve testing, or a dry-weather inspection. Serving Springfield and all of Sangamon County.
