We repair sump pumps and nothing else. No waterproofing upsell, no membership plan. You get a diagnosis, a written price, and a full-cycle test before we leave.

Aurora is unusually tangled. Depending on your address the pipe in your street belongs to a different body, and the rebate everyone here talks about will not pay for a pump.

Who owns the pipe outside your house

Getting this wrong costs a day. Reaching the right authority first is what gets a crew out, and the boundary is not where most people assume.

Inside the city Mains owned and maintained by the city Unincorporated Mains owned by the regional district Every address Foundation to the main is the homeowner’s Pipes over 15 inches and the lift stations sit with the regional district wherever you live.
Three owners, one street. The service line is yours in all three cases.
  • City

    Mains in the incorporated city

Most sewer mains are owned and maintained by the city or village you live in. That is the first call for a backup at a public main.

  • District

    The big pipes, everywhere

The regional reclamation district maintains public sanitary sewer pipes over fifteen inches in diameter and the lift stations, alongside treating the wastewater.

  • Outside

    Unincorporated is different

In unincorporated parts of the townships the district owns the mains directly. One subdivision nearby is served by a private water company instead.

  • Yours

    The service line, always

The line running from your foundation to the sewer main is the homeowner’s responsibility, whichever body owns the pipe it joins.

The rebate, and what it will not cover

Aurora reimburses half the cost of eligible sewer backup prevention work, up to five thousand dollars, for homes built before 1998. Read the exclusions before you plan around it.

Built before 1998? the first gate Covered Overhead sewer, or a backflow prevention device Not covered Sump pump installation, and routine maintenance Fifty percent reimbursement, up to five thousand dollars.
The programme is aimed at sewage coming in, not groundwater going out. Those are different problems.
  • Report to the right body first

Reaching the correct authority speeds up the response. It also settles quickly whether the blockage is in the public main or your own service line.

  • Roots are the leading cause

Tree roots are named as the single biggest cause of sewer backups here. If there is a mature tree near your service line, that is the first thing a camera should look for.

  • Watch for the classic pattern

A toilet overflowing while a sink or bath at the same level drains slowly points at a blocked service line outside, not a fixture problem inside.

  • Treat water in the basement as live

If water has reached outlets or anything plugged in, there may be an electrical hazard. That includes the pump itself, which should not simply be switched back on.

What we repair

  • 01

    Float switch

The most common failure. If it runs when you lift the float by hand, this is it.

  • 02

    Check valve

Failed valves drop the discharge column back into the pit seconds after shutoff.

  • 03

    Impeller and motor

Grinding, humming or tripping. We test under load before recommending replacement.

  • 04

    Pit and basin

Cracked, silted or undersized basins short-cycle every pump fitted into them.

  • 05

    Discharge line

Blocked, crushed, frozen, or terminating where the water simply returns.

  • 06

    Post-flood inspection

Checking a pump that has been submerged before it is trusted again, rather than switching it on and hoping.

Aurora sump pump questions, answered

Will the city rebate pay for my sump pump?

No. The programme covers overhead sewer systems and backflow prevention devices, and it explicitly excludes sump pump installation and routine maintenance of existing systems. It targets sewage coming in, not groundwater going out.

Who do I call about a backup?

It depends on your address. Inside the city, the city owns and maintains the mains. In unincorporated township areas the regional district does. Reaching the right one first speeds up the response considerably.

The toilet overflows and the bath drains slowly. What is that?

A blocked service line outside, not a fixture problem. When two fixtures at the same level misbehave together, the restriction is downstream of both. Tree roots are the leading cause of it here.

Is the service line really mine?

Yes. The line from your foundation to the sewer main is the homeowner’s maintenance responsibility, regardless of which body owns the main it connects into.

My pump was underwater. Can I plug it back in?

Not straight away. Water that has reached outlets or plugged-in equipment creates an electrical hazard, and a saturated motor should be inspected before it is powered up again.

How fast can someone come out?

Same day across most of the Fox Valley, and after hours when water is already coming in. Most parts-level repairs finish in the same visit.

Right authority first. Then the right repair.

Emergency repair, diagnostics, pit and valve testing, or a dry-weather inspection. Serving Aurora and the Fox Valley.
